1. Purpose of this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Adverb Limited ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares personal information when you use Needed.co.nz.

We collect and handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its Information Privacy Principles.

This policy does not cover how Professionals handle your information after you contact them. Professionals are independent and control their own processes.

2. Who we are

3. What we collect

We collect personal information depending on how you use Needed.

A) Customers (when you submit a Request)
•

name (if you provide it)

•

contact details required to submit a Request:

•

phone number (required)

•

email (optional, if you provide it)

•

service category, job description, photos you upload

•

location details you type in (for example, suburb and street name)

B) Professionals
•

name, business name, contact details

•

service categories, service area, profile details

•

billing and transaction information related to Credits (see "Payments")

C) Accounts (optional for Customers)

If you create an account after submitting:

•

login and account identifiers

•

Request history and preferences

D) Usage and device information

We collect usage information such as:

•

IP address

•

approximate location derived from IP (not precise GPS)

•

browser/device identifiers

•

pages viewed, clicks, and referral information

•

cookies and similar technologies (see "Cookies and advertising")

E) Credit refund evidence (Professionals)

If you request a Credit refund, we may collect and store:

•

refund request details and reason

•

proof you provide (for example, screenshots or documents)

•

timestamps and outcomes of contact unlock actions

•

internal logs needed to verify and audit refund decisions

We do not record your phone calls. If you submit call logs or screenshots as part of a support request or refund claim, we may store them for review.

4. Where we get information from

•

directly from you (forms, account creation, support messages)

•

automatically from your browser/device (cookies and logs)

•

from payment and messaging providers used to run the service (see below)

5. Why we use your information

We use personal information to:

create and deliver Requests to relevant Professionals

•

operate accounts and provide support

•

prevent fraud, abuse, and misuse

•

process Credit purchases and maintain records

•

review and process Credit refund requests

•

operate and secure the Platform (diagnostics, monitoring, audit trails)

•

measure and improve performance (analytics)

6. Payments, email, and messaging providers

We use service providers to run Needed, including:

•

Stripe (payments for Credits)

•

Twilio (SMS/phone tooling used for service delivery and verification where applicable)

•

Postmark (transactional email delivery)

•

Google Analytics (analytics)

•

advertising platforms for remarketing (for example Meta and Google where enabled)

These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies.

7. Cookies and advertising

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

keep the site working

•

remember settings

•

measure usage and performance

•

run remarketing and conversion tracking where enabled

You can control cookies in your browser settings. Some features may not work if you disable certain cookies.

8. Who we share information with

We share personal information only as needed to run the service, including:

A) With Professionals

When you submit a Request, we may share relevant Request details with up to three Professionals. If a Professional chooses to contact you using Credits, we disclose the contact details needed for them to contact you (for example, your phone number, and your email if you provided one).

B) With service providers

We share information with vendors that help us operate Needed (hosting, analytics, email, SMS, payments, support tools).

C) For legal and safety reasons

We may disclose information if we believe it is necessary to:

comply with law, court orders, or regulator requests

•

investigate fraud or misuse

•

enforce our Terms

•

protect users, the public, or our rights and property

D) Business changes

If Needed is sold, merged, or restructured, information may transfer as part of that process.

9. Third-party links

The Platform may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or security of those external sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

10. International transfers

Some of our third-party service providers process data outside New Zealand, primarily in the United States. These include Stripe (payments), Twilio (SMS), Postmark (email), Vercel (hosting), Expo (push notifications), and analytics services such as Google Analytics and Meta. We take steps designed to ensure your information receives a level of protection consistent with this policy and applicable law.

These safeguards include, where appropriate:

•

contractual protections with service providers requiring privacy and security standards comparable to New Zealand requirements

•

due diligence on provider security posture (for example, published compliance and security controls)

•

technical and organisational measures such as encryption in transit, access controls, and incident-response processes

11. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy. The following are indicative retention periods:

•

Request data: up to 2 years after last activity on the Request

•

Account data: for the life of the account plus up to 2 years after closure

•

Financial and transaction records: up to 7 years (to meet Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and accounting requirements)

•

Credit refund evidence: up to 12 months after the refund decision

•

Usage and analytics data: up to 2 years

•

Fraud and abuse records: as long as reasonably needed to manage risk and compliance

We may retain information for longer where required by law or to resolve disputes.

12. Data breaches

If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required under the Privacy Act 2020.

13. Your rights and choices

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:

request access to personal information we hold about you

•

request correction of inaccurate information

You may also:

•

request deletion of your information (where we do not need to retain it for legal or operational reasons)

•

opt out of marketing emails via unsubscribe links

•

control cookies via browser settings

14. Children

Needed is not intended for children under 18. If you believe a child has provided information, contact privacy@needed.co.nz.

15. Security

We use measures designed to protect information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, and alteration. No system is completely secure.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

If we make a material change that affects your rights or how we collect, use, or share personal information, we will provide proactive notice (for example by email or a prominent in-Platform notice) before the change takes effect, where reasonably practicable.
